LAFC2 fell 2-1 to AV Alta FC (USL League One) in a hard-fought, 120-minute Second Round clash in the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night at Lancaster Municipal Stadium in Lancaster, CA.
After a goalless first half, Guatemala U-20 international DeCarlo Guerra put LAFC2 ahead with a goal in the 64th minute. The home side responded in the 80th minute when Emmanuel Alaribe equalized, sending the match into extra time.
It was AVA FC's Jimmie Villalobos who delivered the decisive blow in the 120th minute of extra time, scoring the match-winner and securing a 2-1 victory. With that, LAFC2's U.S. Open Cup journey came to an end in the Second Round.
The team will now shift focus back to its MLS NEXT Pro season, with its next match scheduled for Sunday, April 6, against the Houston Dynamo 2 at SaberCats Stadium. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. PST.
