LAFC2 and Portland Timbers2 clashed on Friday night in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Titan Stadium on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
Luis Müller opened the scoring with a free kick in the 7th minute, marking his third goal in as many matches. Tega Ikoba equalized for Timbers2 during first-half stoppage time.
Portland took the lead with a penalty goal in the 48th minute from Ikoba before LAFC2 captain Diego Rosales equalized with a header in the 82nd minute.
Following the full-time whistle, the Black & Gold secured a 5-3 victory in the penalty shootout, earning an additional point as per MLS NEXT Pro rules.
LAFC2 improves to 10W-6L-5D (38 points), and next takes on Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at Swangard Stadium on Sunday, August 25. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. PT.
