LAFC2 extended its home unbeaten streak to eight matches on Sunday, playing Real Monarchs to a 2-2 draw at USC’s Rawlinson Stadium before falling 9-8 in the postgame penalty shootout.

Real Monarchs opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Jesus Barea, but the Black & Gold responded in the second half behind Charlie Kosakoff, who scored a brace in a nine-minute span to turn the match around.

Kosakoff found LAFC2's equalizer in the 54th minute when he finished an assist from DeCarlo Guerra following a Sebastian Nava corner kick. Kosakoff, a 2025 NCAA champion at the University of Washington, struck again in almost identical fashion in the 63rd minute when Tommy Mihalić deflected a Nava corner kick into Kosakoff's path, to put the Black & Gold in front, 2-1.

LAFC2 controlled much of the match, outshooting Real Monarchs 25-6 and holding an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. But Real Monarchs found a late equalizer in the fifth minute of stoppage time through Omar Marquez, sending the match to a penalty shootout, where the visitors claimed the extra point after nine rounds of spot kicks.

LAFC2 remains in sixth place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings, with 28 points from 16 matches. The Black & Gold returns to action on Saturday, July 11, when Timbers2 visits Rawlinson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be available on MLSNEXTPro.com.
