LAFC2 earned a 3-0 victory over Colorado Rapids 2 on Friday night at BMO Stadium, extending its unbeaten run at home to 10 straight matches and securing its eighth win of the season.
The Black & Gold opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Tommy Mihalić finished from the center of the box off an assist from Sebastian Nava. LAFC2 carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime after limiting Colorado to one shot on target in the opening 45 minutes.
LAFC2 doubled its lead in the 65th minute when Giuliano Whitchurch headed home another Nava delivery, this one from a corner kick. Nathan Mardaresco added a third in the 78th minute, finishing from the center of the box after Joshua Santiago played him through, with Mihalić also credited with an assist.
Goalkeeper Cabral Carter made three saves to record the clean sheet, while LAFC2 finished with a 16-12 advantage in shots, a 6-3 edge in shots on target, and seven corner kicks to Colorado’s one.
The result moved LAFC2 into fifth place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings with 34 points from 20 matches. The Black & Gold improved to 7W-1L-3D at home this season and has earned five points from its last two matches.
LAFC2 returns to action on Saturday, August 8, when the club travels to face Timbers2 at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast on MLSNEXTPro.com.
