LAFC2 played to a 3-3 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps 2 in the teams' opening match of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season on Sunday night at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, CA.
Matt Evans (7th minute) opened the scoring for LAFC2, and his early strike was followed by first-half goals from Adrian Wibowo (9') and Alec Hughes, who was credited with the goal after being struck by a Jude Terry shot in the 27th minute.
Vancouver fought back in the second half with goals from Johnny Selemani (53’) and Nelson Pierre (57’), cutting the lead to one. Liam Mackenzie then leveled the match in the 74th minute.
The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where LAFC2 was defeated 4-2, missing out on the extra point per MLS NEXT Pro rules.
The Black & Gold next takes on Ventura County FC at Titan Stadium on Friday, March 14. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT (tickets) and is available to watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
