In a monumental new chapter for North American soccer, Leagues Cup 2023 made history as the first major soccer tournament to feature every club from a pair of top-flight leagues. In the inaugural 2023 edition of Leagues Cup, all 47 MLS and LIGA MX clubs competed in a month-long tournament.

As the 2022 MLS Cup Champions, LAFC skipped the Group Stage of Leagues Cup 2023, then advanced to the Leagues Cup quarterfinals with convincing victories over FC Juarez (7-1 win in the Round of 32) and Real Salt Lake (4-0 in the Round of 16). LAFC fell to C.F. Monterrey, 3-2, in their quarterfinal matchup at the Rose Bowl on August 11, 2023.
