To celebrate the league-wide Kick Childhood Cancer (KCC) campaign, the Club has held several initiatives throughout the years to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.
“I Play For”
LAFC and Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California work together to identify 20 children who are currently fighting their cancer battles to be represented by the players during the Club’s designated KCC match. Each rostered LAFC player is paired with a child and wears that child’s name on the back of their warmup top as a sign of solidarity and support. After the match, the warmup tops are signed by the players and sent to the children they represented.
Captain’s Armband Design
Each year, in partnership with Toyota, LAFC hosts a young cancer survivor at the LAFC training facility to design the KCC captain’s armband alongside select LAFC players. The armband is then worn by the LAFC captain during the Club’s designated KCC match. The armband also serves as the giveaway of the match for the first 10,000 fans in the stadium on that day.
