From celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month to opening a new futsal court, LAFC continued to use the power of sport to make a meaningful impact across Los Angeles this September. We’re grateful to our community partners, players, staff, and supporters who helped bring these moments to life and strengthen our connection to the communities we serve.
In partnership with Metro by T-Mobile, LAFC and Westbrook Academy kicked off the school year with the grand opening of a brand-new futsal court. The celebration featured a ribbon cutting, a 5v5 tournament, and appearances by LAFC legends Denis Bouanga and Carlos Vela, who helped hand out custom backpacks and school supplies to students. It was a memorable day celebrating soccer, community, and a strong start to the school year.
Special Olympics Unified Team End of Year Banquet
To celebrate a fantastic season, the Special Olympics Unified Team hosted a banquet at BMO Stadium. The team came together one last time to reflect on the season, receive awards, and celebrate their accomplishments. A special shoutout to all the fantastic coaches, athletes and partners who made the 2026 season possible. We’re excited for 2027!
At BMO Stadium, LAFC was honored to be recognized by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), an organization dedicated to achieving a just society that is fully inclusive of immigrants. Our very own Carlos Vela accepted the Leadership in Action Award on behalf of LAFC.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, LAFC and roughly 25 students from nonprofit organization Athletes in the Making visited @laPlaza cultural center to experience Recollection of Communities: A Youth Perspective, a new exhibition featuring artwork created by middle and high school students. Through multimedia projects, the young artists shared stories inspired by their communities across Southern California, giving the teens an opportunity to see experiences and cultural identities similar to their own reflected through art.
Following last year’s devastating wildfires, LAFC staff joined Habitat for Humanity in the Pacific Palisades as part of its LA Rebuild campaign. Volunteers came together to support ongoing recovery efforts and help rebuild homes and communities impacted by the fires, continuing LAFC’s commitment to showing up for Angelenos during times of need.
LAFC and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health hosted a collaborative community event aimed to merge the transformative power of sport with essential mental health resources, actively enriching the lives of Los Angeles residents. The event established a safe, inclusive space for both physical and emotional healing. Through direct access to clinical experts and the intentional, character- building framework of a soccer clinic, LACDMH and LAFC focused on strengthening the community’s collective resilience, reducing historical stigma, and providing local youth and families with the life skills and resources necessary to flourish both on and off the pitch. LAFC players Kenny Nielsen and Tommy Mihalic joined participants in the hands-on soccer clinic led by local non-profit, LA Active Sports.
LAFC staff joined DoorDash and Feed the Children in Boyle Heights to support the community following the recent warehouse fires. Together, volunteers distributed more than 650 school supplies, hygiene products, and nonperishable food items to students at Eastman Elementary School. The day also included soccer activations for students, with special appearances from the LAFC Falconer and LAFC goalkeeper Cabral Carter, creating an opportunity to bring additional support and excitement to the school and the Boyle Heights community.
