Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that the Club has signed Colombian defender Eddie Segura from Atlético Huila on a six-month loan with a purchase option. The 21-year-old center back will occupy an international slot in LAFC’s roster in 2019.
“At such a young age, Eddie has accumulated a wealth of experience in Colombia, and we believe he has the requisite potential and qualities to make an immediate impact to our backline next season.” said General Manager and EVP of Soccer Operations John Thorrington. “Eddie is a strong, dynamic defender who fits well with how we play, and, similar to our other players, will continue his progress as a player here in Los Angeles.”
Segura, 21, becomes the Club’s first offseason signing and will join the Black & Gold at the start of preseason camp in January.
In 2018, Segura captained Atlético Huila to a fourth place regular season finish in the Torneo Apertura and a trip to the semifinals after appearing in every league and postseason match. He also played in 18 league games of the Torneo Finalización, logging 1,620 minutes along the way.
In his two years with the club, Segura saw action in 80 contests across all competitions, tallying two goals in 7,121 minutes. Segura joined Huila prior to the 2017 campaign after spending his first four professional seasons in Colombia’s second division with Deportivo Pereira.
