LAFC Acquires Mexican Defender Omar Campos From Santos Laguna Of Liga Mx

LAFC announced today that the Club has acquired defender Omar Campos from Santos Laguna of Liga MX guaranteed through 2027 with options for 2028. Campos joins LAFC as a part of Major League Soccer’s U22 Initiative and will occupy an international Roster Slot and will be added to the roster pending receipt of his international Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa.

“Omar is an incredibly talented left back with incredible potential and vast experience in Liga MX despite his young age,” LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said. “Omar is a fantastic addition to our strong group of defenders, and we are confident this move to LAFC will be a positive one for Omar and our club in our pursuit of more trophies. I would also like to thank Santos and the Orlegi group for their cooperation throughout the process.”

Campos, 21, joins LAFC after spending the past three years playing for Santos Laguna in Mexico. He made his professional debut for Santos in Liga MX at the age of 18, in a 2-0 win vs. Tigres UANL on Jan. 18, 2021. Overall, Campos has made 114 appearances (110 starts) and scored eight goals and three assists across all competitions, including 17 postseason matches, and two games in the Concacaf Champions League.

The Mexico City native recently made his debut for the Mexican National Team on Dec. 17, 2023 at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum vs. Colombia.
