LAFC hosted an official signing day for the 22 members of its 2026 Special Olympics Unified Team on Tuesday, March 24, at BMO Stadium in partnership with BMO and Special Olympics Southern California.
Unified Team players and coaches were joined by LAFC defender Ryan Hollingshead, LAFC Co-President and GM John Thorrington, and falconer Jason Miknuk and Olly, as they signed their official contracts and were presented with their authentic LAFC uniforms and training gear.
The LAFC Special Olympics Unified Team, created in collaboration with MLS Works and Special Olympics Southern California and with support from BMO, unites players with and without intellectual disabilities to compete as members of one team. As part of the program, the Unified Team attends weekly training sessions, plays in scrimmages, and plays competitive matches against Unified Teams from other Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs.
The LAFC Special Olympics Unified Team kicks off its season on Sunday, May 17, at GEODIS Park in in Nashville, TN, against Nashville SC Unified, immediately following the MLS match between LAFC and Nashville SC.
The team hosts the Portland Timbers Unified Team on August 22, 2026, at BMO Stadium, following the MLS match between LAFC and Portland Timbers.
Additionally, members of the LAFC Special Olympics Unified Team will be selected to represent the club at the Special Olympics Unified Sports All-Star soccer match, as part of MLS All-Star Week in Charlotte, NC, this summer.
