Eddie Segura 2026 contract extension

LAFC has re-signed defender Eddie Segura to a contract extension through the 2029-2030 season with a club option through 2030-2031.

“We are proud to have agreed to another contract extension with Eddie,” said LAFC President of Soccer Operations John Thorrington. “Eddie has earned the trust and respect of everyone at this club through his consistency, professionalism, and leadership over the years. He has played an important role in some of the biggest moments in our history, and his character, humility, and commitment to the team exemplify the qualities we value and want to reward at LAFC. We are excited to have Eddie and his family remain an important part of this club as we continue our pursuit of more championships.”

Segura, 29, first joined the Black & Gold at the age of 21 on loan from Colombian side Atlético Huila in November 2018, and later signed a permanent multi-year agreement with the club in July 2019. He made his LAFC and MLS debut on March 3, 2019, in a 2-1 win against Sporting Kansas City and was in the midst of an LAFC-record 72 consecutive regular-season appearances (82 across all competitions) before being sidelined with a season-ending injury in July 2021. Segura persevered through multiple setbacks during his recovery and signed his first contract extension with the club in July 2023. He made his return to the pitch the following season for LAFC’s 2024 MLS season opener against the Seattle Sounders on February 24, 2024.

Since his return, the Pereira, Colombia, native has emerged as one of LAFC’s most crucial figures, filling multiple roles across the backline and in midfield. Throughout his time here, Segura has appeared in 216 matches (179 starts) across all competitions for the Black & Gold, contributing five goals and eight assists while playing a key role in the club capturing two Supporters’ Shields (2019, 2022), the 2022 MLS Cup, and the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. In 2025, Segura became LAFC’s longest-tenured active player, reaching 143 appearances for the club while starting 28 of 31 regular-season matches and recording a team-high 2,493 minutes among LAFC centerbacks.

In 2026, Segura has continued to cement his status as a cornerstone of the club. On February 17, 2026, Segura became LAFC’s all-time leader in minutes played across all competitions during a Concacaf Champions Cup match against Real España. On May 10, 2026, he made his 153rd regular-season appearance against Houston Dynamo, making him the Black & Gold’s all-time appearance leader – a record previously held by Carlos Vela (152). So far this year, Segura has made 31 appearances (29 starts) across all competitions for the club and scored the lone goal in stoppage time in a 1-0 Leagues Cup Phase One win over Toluca.

Prior to joining LAFC, Segura led Atlético Huila to a fourth-place regular-season finish in the 2018 Torneo Apertura while playing in every league and postseason match. In total, Segura saw action in 80 matches across all competitions for Huila, scoring two goals in 7,123 minutes. Before Huila, Segura spent his first four professional years with Deportivo Pereira of Colombia’s second division.

Internationally, Segura has represented Colombia at the U-23 level, registering seven appearances (six starts), including six appearances in the 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament.
