LAFC vs Club América
Wednesday, August 3, 2022
8:15pm PT
SoFi Stadium - Los Angeles, California
TV: ESPN, Univision
LAFC will be making its first ever appearance in the Leagues Cup Showcase when it faces Club América on Wednesday at SoFi Stadium. The matchup will be the second game of a doubleheader with the first game being between Club Deportivo Guadalajara and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The doubleheader will also be the first-ever soccer event in the stadium’s short three-year history.
The one-game friendly vs Las Águilas will be a rematch of the 2020 Concacaf Champions League Semifinal where LAFC came out victorious 3-1. The Black & Gold were able to overcome being down a man and losing 1-0 at halftime in a very chippy game. Two goals within two minutes to start the second half from captain Carlos Vela and a goal in stoppage time from Latif Blessing helped LAFC become the first team in MLS history to eliminate three Mexican clubs in the tournament.
The Black & Gold will come into this matchup atop the MLS standings and riding a four-game MLS winning streak after they beat the Seattle Sounders 2-1 on Friday while Las Águilas have lost their last two league games and sit in the 15th spot out of 18 teams in 2022 Apertura Liga MX season.
