LAFC defeated Red Bull New York 2-0 at BMO Stadium on Wednesday night, the result maintaining LAFC's place in the top four of the Western Conference standings with nine matches left in its MLS regular-season schedule.
LAFC began the scoring in the 21st minute, when a build-up on the left flank spearheaded by Yevhen Cheberko placed the ball at Son Heung-Min’s feet just inside the area. Son’s left-footed shot was saved by RBNY goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, but 17-year-old midfielder Jude Terry slotted home the rebound to give LAFC a 1-0 lead.
LAFC created five total shots on goal in the first half to New York’s one, but could not add to its 1-0 edge by halftime.
Midfielder Igor Jesus entered the match for Terry in the 61st minute, returning to the field for the first time since suffering a knee injury on August 23, 2025.
LAFC created several chances in the second half, including in the 78th minute, when Son hit the crossbar with a left-footed blast from near the six-yard box.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time (90'+5), Ryan Hollingshead drove up the left flank and delivered a pinpoint pass to second-half substitute Armindo Sieb who banged home a left-footed laser from 18 yards out for LAFC's second goal, and Sieb's first in a black and gold shirt since he joined LAFC last month from Bayern Munich.
The clean sheet was LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris' 12th in MLS regular-season play, placing him back in first place among all MLS goalies this season in that statistic.
LAFC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Black & Gold visits Sporting Kansas City. The action gets underway at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Apple TV, as well as Coupang Play and SPOTV for fans in Korea.
