Brian Rodriguez Returns To LAFC Following Loan To UD Almeria

LAFC today announced that forward Brian Rodriguez has returned to the Club following his loan to UD Almeria of Spain’s LaLiga 2.

Rodriguez most recently was with the Uruguayan National Team at the Copa America tournament, where Uruguay was eliminated in the quarterfinals on penalty kicks by Colombia on July 3.

“It is great to have Brian back with us,” LAFC head coach Bob Bradley said. “We know that Brian is capable of adding special things to our attack and we are excited to push him forward and get him ready to play.”

During the 2020 season, the 21-year-old led LAFC with six assists, while also adding two goals. Rodriguez was named to the MLS 22 Under 22 lists in both 2019 and 2020.

“I am excited to be back in Los Angeles and get back on the field with my teammates,” Rodriguez said. “I am ready to play in front of our incredible supporters and I am looking forward to helping our team win.”

Signed on Aug. 7, 2019, as a Young Designated Player, Rodriguez has appeared in a total of 26 MLS regular season matches (23 starts), three playoff games and four matches in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League.

Before joining LAFC, Rodriguez spent two and a half seasons with Uruguayan side CA Peñarol, notching three goals and nine assists in 26 games across all competitions. Internationally, Rodriguez has been a mainstay for Uruguay’s senior side since his debut on Sept. 7, 2019. He has three goals in 10 total appearances and has appeared four of Uruguay’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
