LAFC announced today that it has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Eduard Atuesta.

“Eduard is a special talent, which he has demonstrated throughout his time at LAFC,” said Co-President and GM John Thorrington. “He is a top player in our league capable of playing at the highest level, and we are certain he will continue to play a critical part in our success for as long as he is here.”

Atuesta has been a vital part of LAFC’s midfield since joining the Club early in its inaugural season in 2018. The 23-year-old was acquired using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) on February 27, 2018, from Colombian side Independiente Medellín.

He made his Club and MLS debut in the first crosstown rivalry matchup against the Galaxy on March 31, 2018, a 4-3 loss. Since that matchup, Atuesta has made 75 appearances for the Black and Gold, starting 63, adding six goals and 15 assists.

The Colombian international helped lead LAFC to the 2019 Supporters’ Shield and was named an MLS Best XI in the same year. He has also earned nine MLS Team of the Week selections and was honored as an MLS 22 Under 22 in 2018.
