After a scoreless battle against Club América on Wednesday, Aug. 3 in an exhibition match as part of the Leagues Cup Showcase that ended with LAFC losing in a penalty shoot-out, LAFC will now return to MLS action to take on Real Salt Lake on Saturday. LAFC travels to Rio Tinto Stadium, where they have found great success in the past having only lost once in the Club’s history (5-1-0).

The Black & Gold come into match riding a four-game MLS winning streak, and has won six of its last seven games to remain atop the Supporters’ Shield standings with 48 points.

Real Salt Lake currently sit in fifth place with 34 points in the Western Conference standings through 23 games played.

REAL SALT LAKE IN-DEPTH

Led by head coach Pablo Mastroeni, Real Salt Lake are in the midst of battle for positioning for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Winger Jefferson Savarino is the current scoring leader on the team with five goals in only nine games played. The team has had 14 different goal scorers this year, including Justen Glad, Justin Meram and Bobby Wood, who are all tied with three goals scored..

Real Salt Lake will most likely be without the team’s 2021 leading goal scorer in Damir Kreilach, who has only played in five games this season due to injury.

LAFC WILL WIN IF

They can begin the game strong and not get off to a slow start. While LAFC have shown they are able to win a game this season even if they do start slow.. Regardless, LAFC will need to get off on the right foot, especially on the road against an RSL team that is fighting to make the playoffs. LAFC will need to play with a high tempo and push the ball to any of its forwards who have combined to score 26 of the team’s 44 goals this season.

REAL SALT LAKE CAN WIN IF

They can successfully transition the ball forward and get crosses in. Having scored four goals this season, forward Sergio Córdova loves to feed off crosses to put balls in the back of the net. Córdova is a big body that can get in tight space by creating physical mismatches. Savarino also remains a threat anywhere on the field and has proven he has the patience and skill to score at any moment.
