Top 5 Moments In Steve Cherundolo’s Playing Career

LAFC hired the second coach in Club history on Jan. 3, naming U.S. Soccer legend Steve Cherundolo the manager to replace Bob Bradley. Here are the top 5 moments in the coach's career.

  1. Led Hanover 96 into the top division of the Bundesliga in 2002. Hannover won the 2.Bundesliga title in dramatic fashion. 
  2. With Hannover, qualified for the Europa League in 2011-12 and 2012-13 – Played 90 minutes as Hannover defeated Standard Liege 4-0 in the second leg of the Round of 16 in Europa League on March 15, 2012. Cherundolo and Hannover were defeated by Atletico Madrid in the Quarterfinals.  
  3. Played 90 minutes on June 17, 2006 as the United States tied Italy in its second game of the 2006 World Cup. The game was played in Kaiserslautern in Germany, as Cherundolo had the opportunity to play in the World Cup in front of fans in his adopted country. 
  4. Played 90 minutes and was on the field – and in the celebration on June 23, 2010 when Landon Donovan’s stoppage time goal lifted the USA to a 1-0 win over Algeria and the top position in their group. 
  5. Oct. 23, 2004 – Scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in the 35th minute in a 2-0 Hannover win over Monchengladbach.
